West Virginia Academy Joins Statewide Conversation on Special Education Funding and Charter Schools

CHARLESTON, W.Va.. West Virginia Academy Associate Director Holly Honeycutt recently joined Delegate Joe Statler, Chair of the West Virginia House Committee on Education, and charter school leaders from across the state for a collaborative discussion on strengthening special education funding and supporting the continued growth of public charter schools in West Virginia.

The meeting brought together education leaders committed to ensuring that all scholars, including those with disabilities, have access to high quality educational opportunities and the resources they need to succeed. Participants discussed the unique funding challenges public charter schools face when providing special education services and explored ways to improve support for scholars across the state.

"As charter schools continue to grow in West Virginia, it is important that we have a voice in conversations that directly impact our scholars and families," said Honeycutt. "We appreciate Delegate Statler's leadership and his willingness to listen to the experiences of charter school leaders. Working together allows us to identify solutions that benefit all West Virginia scholars."

The discussion also provided an opportunity for school leaders to share innovative practices, celebrate the successes of West Virginia's public charter schools, and collaborate on ways to strengthen educational opportunities for every child.

As a FREE public charter school serving scholars in Pre K through 12, West Virginia Academy remains committed to providing an individualized education that meets scholars where they are. Through its paper and pencil instructional model, strong character education, experiential learning opportunities, and rigorous academics, WVA continues to prepare scholars for success in school and beyond.

West Virginia Academy is proud to be part of these important statewide conversations and looks forward to continuing to work alongside legislators and education leaders to advocate for policies that support scholars, families, and public charter schools throughout West Virginia.
