January 31, 2020 (Morgantown, WV) - The initial Governing Board of West Virginia Academy, Ltd., a West Virginia non-profit organization, held its first official meeting at its headquarters on Friday. The agenda for the meeting included the adoption of the non-profit entity's official Bylaws and ratification of its Articles of Incorporation. The organizational documents lay the groundwork for the establishment of West Virginia's first charter school and set the bold vision for an organization that seeks to improve public education in Monongalia County, its surrounding areas, and throughout West Virginia. Additional items of business included initial discussions of establishing a pre-K program as early as the fall of 2020 as well as authorization of the organization's treasurer, Susan Dull, to complete the documents to apply for 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service. The board will hold regular meetings over the coming months in preparation of its application for a charter.
