Cultures, Creativity, and Community. Celebrating Cultural Connection

Cultural Connection is one of the most anticipated events of the year. It brings our school community together to explore cultures from West Virginia, across the United States, and around the world. Scholars spend weeks learning, creating, and preparing so they can proudly share their knowledge with their families. The result is a night filled with energy, discovery, and celebration.

From the moment families entered the building, excitement filled the halls. Every space offered something new to experience. Scholars stood ready at their booths, eager to explain their projects and teach others about the cultures they studied. Families moved from display to display, stopping often to ask questions, admire artwork, and celebrate student learning.

Scholars representing Paris invited families to imagine strolling along the Seine. Their booth captured the beauty and charm of the city through art and landmarks. Second grade brought India to life. Families learned about Diwali and many enjoyed getting Mehndi henna designs, making this stop both educational and interactive.

Third grade transported families to Italy. Their creative version of the Mona Lisa sparked conversations, while their Tower of Pisa display showcased strong attention to detail. Fifth graders introduced Inti, the Incan God of the Sun. Scholars confidently explained the history and meaning behind this important figure.

Sixth grade welcomed families with rich Mexican hot chocolate and shared their colorful Papel Picado. Scholars explained how these traditions connect to celebration and family. Secondary scholars guided families through Poland and Greenland, using visuals and facts that sparked curiosity and discussion.

Eighth grade celebrated Appalachian culture. Their space reflected local history, creativity, and pride. Talented scholars played guitars, adding warmth and authenticity to the experience. Kindergarten proudly shared their Quilt of Learning and explained how handprints were used to create the Mayflower, showing how young scholars connect creativity with history.

Secondary scholars also took families to Japan. Anime characters and cultural details drew in visitors of all ages. Pre Kindergarten explored the United States, sharing what they learned about different regions through bright and thoughtful displays.

Cultural Connection was highly attended and full of joy. Scholars and families were engaged, excited, and proud. The night reminded us that learning is powerful when it is shared. Cultural Connection continues to be a highlight of our school year, and it leaves everyone excited for what comes next.
