West Virginia Academy – Beginning Our Fourth Year

ree

We are excited to be entering our fourth year at West Virginia Academy, and it has been a strong start to the 2025–2026 school year. As West Virginia’s first in-person charter school, we are proud to continue the programs that make us unique.

Our STEPS (Supplemental Tiered Educational Plan Success) program for primary scholars is thriving, providing individualized opportunities for students to develop skills at their own level. Primary instruction is centered on four target areas:

1. Effective Communication

2. Creative Collaboration

3. Dynamic Leadership

4. Promising Innovation

Each scholar has the opportunity to attend four curriculum-connected field trips, and our culminating activities allow students to expand their classroom learning in meaningful ways. We are also looking forward to our annual Fall Fest, which will close out the first nine weeks.

At the secondary level, enrollment continues to grow as we expand unique opportunities such as our Dual Enrollment Program with West Virginia University. Last year, 10th- and 11th-grade students successfully took WVU courses while earning dual credit here at West Virginia Academy. This year, scholars in grades 10–12 are participating in classes at WVU on Tuesdays and Thursdays, earning both college credit and Academy credit. In addition, we are exploring new programs for students who may not be pursuing college after high school, and we will share details as those options are finalized.

We are also thrilled to announce that West Virginia Academy will host its first prom in spring 2026. Our fall dance for grades 6–12 was a huge success, and we plan to offer another dance this winter.

In athletics, we are currently in the middle of our cross-country season and look forward to offering basketball and cheerleading this winter. Wrestling will return in the winter, and track and field will be offered again in the spring. We are also seeing strong interest in volleyball and are exploring ways to add it to our program. We remain open to considering additional sports and activities that interest our scholars.

Our First Break programming will begin following Fall Fest on Friday, October 3. Scholars have worked hard preparing for this event, and it is a wonderful way to kick off the first break. Break programming this fall will include:

· Art Camp

· Basketball Clinic (with off-site transportation provided – week 2 – grades 3 - 12 )

· Little Explorers (ages 4–6)

· STEAM Fall Explorations (grades 1 – 5)

· Pumpkin Drop (grades 6 – up)

· Wrestling Clinic (Week 1 Oct 6 – 10 – grades 1 – 5 morning; grades 6 – 12 afternoon)

· Cheerleading Clinic (Week 2 – Oct 13 – 17 – grades 1 -5 morning; grades 6 – 12 afternoon)

These opportunities provide an engaging way for students to continue learning outside of the classroom.

We encourage all families to stay connected and involved at West Virginia Academy. Our executive team, faculty, and staff are energized by the positive start to the school year, and our scholars are thriving. West Virginia Academy was founded through the incredible vision of establishing a tuition-free alternative within West Virginia’s public education system. That vision continues to guide us as we grow and establish our place in the community.

We remain committed to supporting every child’s learning journey and helping them develop a clear path toward their long-term goals. For more information, please call 304-449-4375 or visit westvirginiaacademy.org.
